PLUS members, get excited. We have a new tutorial from master digital illustrator and designer Matthias Bäuerle of Season Zero. Here are his other sites: Season Zero on Behance and Season Zero on Flickr, so you can see his high quality work. He's created a PLUS tutorial that details his process for creating stunning Metal Album Artwork in Photoshop. Jump over to your PLUS account and download it today.
Creating Artwork For An Epic Metal Album
The tutorial is available as a download package through your PSDTUTS Plus membership. The download includes the HTML tutorial files, and the layered PSD as well. Below is the Final Image Preview. Matthias does a great job of showing the overall process of creating this photo-manipulation illustration. He also gives expert advice along the way.

Great image here. Even though I’m not a plus member, you guys at PSDTUTS have given us more than enough of your expertise and patience to deconstruct this and try it on our own. Thanks. I’ll be adding a link to your site when mine is finally up.

SUPRA KITCH…
————
@ cpg: For your info, a tutorial is not meant to be copied from A to Z, but to learn techniques. You find it kitsch? then do not use it. Some people may need these techniques in order to move forward, for an artwork, or simply because they like the style! 2008 he says … listening to you, it takes only things with light, with the same styles, the same effects, full of rainbow colors everywhere and bravo it is in the box …
In addition, access to tutorials PLUS allows you to have access to a lot of other tutorials, to thank the people who allow you to enjoy those free ones etc …
ps: if I ask you to do me a poster “Lord of the rings” for tomorrow, paid 300 euros. Would you tell me that it’s too kitsch? … think a little.

very nice, i like it a lot

Sorry,
Perspective and scale don’t match between foreground and background. Plus, your background elements are too sharp and contrasted. The knight and his horse seem to float and i note a transpareent rock on their left. Some volunteer for a simple and efficient photo composition or matte-painting tutorial ?
I think PSDTUTS site has a quality issue. The site needs to feed its visitors and we all know that photoshop skills and tips go round after a while so there is not much new with the time passing and we end up with this kind of desastrous title : Creating Artwork for an Epic Metal Album providing even more desastrous result.

I like it! It’s dynamic. @cpg: Personne n’est forcé de payer! Si tu n’aime pas, tu n’aime pas. Le beau est dans l’oeil du spectateur.
insic July 31st
looks great, i want the plus!
Urban July 31st
I agree with NoNo
Some elements of this tutorial, (from the preview), seem to be a little poorly thought about.
Far too much contrast, very good effort, but i wouldn’t pay $9 a month for something od this standard.
i’m not here to start any argument, but simply offer my opion.
just my 2 cents worth

That looks very nice.

Look great…. except for issue of a transparent rock! Why on earth would a cloak be visible through a rock?
Matthias | Season Zero August 1st
Hey guys,
first of all I would like to thank everyone for your comments. I have to admit this magical yet a bit odd transparent stone is definately a wonder of nature that I truly wish I could explain *g* Just kidding. My fault - but nothing that changes the issue of this “tutorial”. It’s not about explaining one effect or making a perfectly realistic composing (there are no grunge texture in real life).
The title is also just totally ironic and the picture is completely stereotype (and I also wrote that in the tutorial itself) but in the end I hope it can show you how to approach something like that, that is in fact a bit different to the current vibrant color artworks (that I like too).
And yes I try to sell it to Dragonforce - business baby *g*
yours
